Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
English is spoken all over the world, it is an important official language for government in the world. Meanwhile it is also significant in education, trade, world news around the world. And in China, with the development of economy, English plays an more important role. English is a compulsory basic course in vocational school, This course is conducive to the improvement of students' comprehensive ability, and its importance can not be ignored. A good command of English is not only conducive to the expression of personal thoughts and communication with others, and it also can enable them to access more areas and deeper levels of expertise. It is known that writing ability is one of basic skills of English and is the important teaching part in vocational school. Writing is the way of output. That is very important. Gould, Dianne and Smith (1989:11) state the definition of writing as:“writing is a creative act because it requires people to interpret or make sense of something: an experience, a text, and an event.”What’s more, writing can also raise the awareness of how English works. Meanwhile can also improve English learners’writing skills. Through writing, learners can become more familiar with English, can have a good command of it and master English very well. In fact, the current situation of English writing class is not satisfying. On the one hand, students pay little a little to English writing, especially in vocational school. So students’ writing is very poor. Berg, E.C. states that students should have linguistic knowledge (1999). However, many students in vocational school are lack of effective instruction and training in English writing; The students' writing ability is limited, and The basic knowledge of English is weak.Students are not interested in English writing. They also have the fear of emotions to English writing. English teachers vocational school in also worry the present situation of English writing. For example, the concept of teachers in the teaching of writing is relatively out-of-date. Teachers ignore the usual writing training, and their consciousness of writing teaching is weak. There is limited time in English class, therefore, there is just a little time for English writing. Some teachers even do not realize the importance of English Writing(Liu Ping Ping,2010.)In traditional English
