Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research Background
Department of HigherEducation, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China had conductedinspection and expert appraisal on the practices of computer-assisted foreign languageteaching in the foreign language world over the years and issued in January 2004 thenotice of "College English Curriculum Requirements (For Trial Implementation)"(hereinafter referred to as "Requirements") to adapt to the new situation andrequirements of the current national college English teaching. "Requirements" makesit clear that as for "teaching mode", the schools should “take full advantage of themultimedia and network technology and adopt new teaching modes to improve theoriginal single teaching-based classroom teaching mode”.With the advent of the information age, multimedia-assisted foreign languageteaching has become the commanding heights of the foreign language educationreform. Therefore, it has become a necessity to apply computer-based multimedia inlistening teaching, which is also a great challenge of the means and methods oftraditional listening teaching. How to solve the problems existing in the listeningteaching and how to improve the effectiveness of multimedia listening teaching havebecome a big problem of teaching to solve for the majority of English educators.

1.2 Research Significance
English listening teaching research is a difficult problem, and how to improvethe actual effect of the English listening teaching under the multimedia environment isa hot issue in teaching. This paper investigates on applying constructivist theory tomultimedia listening teaching in order to solve the practical problems existing inlistening teaching and tries to put forward more reasonable teaching theories andteaching modes for college English listening teaching so as to improve thegeneral proficiency of English learners, so that the colleges can cultivate moreexcellent foreign language talents. To provide a Reference to college to carry out the reform of English teaching, thepaper, taking constructivism as the theoretical basis, combines with the researcher'sown teaching practice to explore specific measures and teaching strategies formultimedia-assisted college listening teaching so as to provide foreign languageteachers and learners certain reference value.

Chapter Two Literature Review
2.1 Term Defined
Multimedia is a combination of “multiple” and “media”. Generally speaking,multimedia refers to a new media reaction system formed after organic combinationof multiple media. Usually what we call multimedia teaching has two meanings: first,connect computer and other instructional media so that it can interact with othermedia, and also use other means such as slide shows, projection and videos so as tohave an organic combination of multimedia instruments and use throughout theteaching process.
