4.1 Distribution of Teacher-and-Peer Support,Learning Beliefs andLearning Satisfaction
Descriptive statistical analysis is performed to derive the mean values,standarddeviation,skewness and kurtosis,which helps summarize the current situation anddistribution of teacher-and-peer support,learning beliefs and learning satisfaction ofcollege students in English learning.Findings are displayed in the subsequent tables.
4.1.1 Distribution of Teacher-and-Peer Support
Table 4.1 presents the overall descriptive statistics for perceived teacher-and-peersupport.The mean values of the four components range from 4.4417 to 4.7424,allsurpassing the midpoint in the six-point Likert scale.It suggests that all dimensions ofteacher-and-peer support are at a medium-to-high level,which is consistent with thefindings of Guo and Niu(2017).Skewness and kurtosis provide further evidence ofthis conclusion.Skewness measures the asymmetry of a distribution,while kurtosismeasures its tailedness.The negative skewness values indicate that the distribution isslightly longer on the left side of its peak,with most participants perceiving relativelystrong support from teachers and peers,while a few perceive below average support.The positive kurtosis values suggest that the distribution has a relatively thin tail, indicating that participants tended to choose intermediate values(3 or 4)rather thanextreme values(1 or 6)when filling in the questionnaires.Furthermore,the skewnessvalues(ranging from-0.659 to-0.434)and kurtosis values(ranging from-0.015 to0.616)in all dimensions are within the normal range(-1 to 1).
