摘要:本文是一篇小学英语教学论文,本研究以问卷调查、课堂观察和访谈为基础,对小学英语绘本教学进行了三项主要研究。
本文认为70%以上的教师在日常教学中使用英语绘本。他们大多有意识地设计活动来培养学生的批判性思维。通过课堂观察发现,具有硕士学位的教师和知名教师在课堂上通过提问更自觉地培养学生的批判性思维。
Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Background Information
1.1.1 Demand of National English Curriculum
Nowadays, language is not only as a tool for communication, but also as a toolfor developing thinking ability. As for primary school students, it’s necessary for themto develop thinking ability at the beginning level of learning language. For teachers,in language teaching, especially in EFL classroom, teachers should pay more attentionon the importance of critical thinking instead of only imparting knowledge. Accordingto the National English Curriculum for Compulsory Education Standard(2011version), English course undertakes the task of cultivating students’ basicEnglish literacy and developing students’ thinking ability. English curriculum reformis moving towards a core competency era. The core competence of English subjectsconsists of the key abilities and essential characters of the subject. And according tothe High School English Curriculum Standards (2017), the core competence includesthe language ability, learning ability, thinking quality and cultural awareness. The newcurriculum (p.5) clearly defines that thinking quality refers to logical, critical, andcreative thinking ability. The development of the thinking quality helps to improvestudents’ ability to analyze and solve problems, enabling them to observe andunderstand the world from a cross-cultural perspective and make correct valuejudgments on things.
Cheng Xiaotang & Yue Ying (2011) pointed that it is important to promote thedevelopment of brain and mind by learning other than your native language.Therefore, it’s necessary for both teachers and parents to develop students’ thinkingability at the beginning level of language learning. All subjects in the basic educationstage should be conducive to promoting the development of students’ thinking ability.

1.2 Purpose of the study
Through questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews, this thesismainly focuses on the study of developing students’ critical thinking in EPBinstruction in primary schools. The aim of this thesis is to find out the currentsituation of primary school EPB instruction to develop students’ critical thinking,aspect of English picture books which can develop students’ critical thinking and theway of teaching design to develop students’ critical thinking, so as to optimizeprimary school English teachers’ EPB teaching. It also makes primary school Englishteachers to value and discover the value of English picture books, and the importanceof developing and improving students’ critical thinking in EPB teaching.
In short, EPB is in line with primary school students’ psychological cognitions.Learning EPB allows students to improve their language skills while promotingdevelopment of thinking ability through providing students with rich life situationsand contexts. The purpose of learning EPB is not only to master the content andexpand complementary knowledge, but to guide students to understand the real worldthrough the English picture books.
