摘要:The major purpose of the research is to find out the relationship between L2learners' reading proficiency level and the organizational patterns of their metal lexicon.Based on a carefully designed word association test and a questionnaire。

Third, the classification of responses is a very difficult process. Differentclassification may result in different result. Although the criteria of classification in the present research were designed by referring to many other studies,they are far fromperfect. Some responses are dealt with uncertainty. Meanwhile, the classification wasdone by the researcher herself. Although this can ensure a consistent standard ofcategorizing the responses, some subjective judgments may influence the reliability ofthe research. A more perfect and scientific standard of classification shall be designed infurther studies.
To summarize, the thesis probes the issue of L2 mental lexicon and readingcomprehension. Proper ways of readings help to construct college students' mentallexicons to a great extent. As a major source of input,reading ability can be improvedby a reinforced mental lexicon network. On the contrary, being more efficient readers ofEnglish can help students to reconstruct and perfect their L2 lexicon network. Theinteractive relation between reading and mental lexicon building is revealed in theresearch. However, since mental lexicon theory is still a developing subject, more workis needed for new discoveries in the future.
