2 Literature Review
Literature review begins with the introduction of TBLT including TBLT abroad and athome and three theoretical foundations of TBLT. And the post-task phase, a phase of TBLT, isalso stated in detail so as to unearth its potential significance in vocabulary teaching of toiorismEnglish.
2.1 Research on TBLT Abroad and at Home
As a new teaching model, task-based language teaching gains popularity very quicklyaround the world. The rapid development of TBLT manifests strong vitality and liveliness,which induces the students' internal interests and motivation. The new teaching methodchanges teachers' traditional roles in language teaching. Many researchers keep an eye onmany reforms of language teaching at home and abroad when TBLT comes into the vision ofresearchers.
2.1.1 Research on TBLT Abroad
TBLT transforms the fundamental theories of language use into the specific classroomteaching model as the language teaching model of learning by practice. Activities that involvereal communication are essential for language learning. Language is used for carrying outmeaningftil activities called tasks that promote learning. Language is meaningful to the learnerto support the learning process.Language learning is believed to depend on the students doing tasks which require themto negotiate meaning and engage in situational and meaningful communication. They canprove learners motivation and therefore promote language teaching.The original task-based language learning came from the celebrated Bangalore Project(Prabhu, 1987:46-47), which reacted against the traditional form of the language teaching usedin India and argued that real classroom is the classroom with proper tasks. If learning wasdoing tasks, teaching meant specifying and helping to finish tasks. Educational value dependedon the validity of the tasks and usefulness as means of language teaching. Prabhu, as the firstone, who introduced TBLT into teaching practice made great contribution to the developmentof TBLT based on his theory and practice. However,there were some defects in his theory,Willis gave the framework to make the improvement for TBLT.Jane Willis made another great contribution to TBLT's practice. Willis presentedframework, which was designed to provide complete guide to the theory and practice aboutTBLT to meet various needs.
