1.2 Significance of the research
Hidden stratified English teaching (hereinafter HSET when necessary) is designed to convert the conventional English teaching mode, make students as the teaching focus and attach importance to the students’ personal differences. HSET is dissimilar to the conventional English teaching mode, and establishes an innovative teaching way. In the conventional English teaching pattern, the teacher uses the identical time, speed, approaches and materials to teach the different students. And the identical evaluation criterion is used to decide whether the students are good or not. The conventional English teaching mode slowed the growth of the students’ mixed-ability. Besides the conventional English teaching pattern, HSET mode treasures the students’ personal differences and the students are regarded as the highlight in the process of English teaching. HSET mode can help realize the new goal of education and show the students’ personal differences. It not only stimulates the students who have the strong abilities to study to get the high point on learning English, but also helps the students who are weak in studying English or are afraid to mistake English to triumph English. To a degree, it can make the students have a good learning environment and cultivate the students’ positive attitude to learning English.

A related definition, the theoretical elements of ST, a related oversea research and a related research in China constitute this chapter, which describes the literature review related to the research case in LN1SHS. The related definitions include the concepts of ST, the definitions of HST and the features of HST. The researcher will construct the theoretical elements for the present paper including the zone of proximal development theory, the Krashen’s input hypo
thesis and the affective filter hypothesis, the individualized principle, the mastery learning and the optimization of teaching process theory.
2.1 Related definitions
The related definitions are made up of the concepts of the ST, a definition of the HST and the features of the HST. The ST is a new mode of teaching in a classroom. The students of each level can realize the homologous teaching destination with the help of their teachers, based on the student’s knowledge basis and the actual conditions of learning via the stratified group of teaching.
