he instruments were very cheap there, and so it was easy for black people to get an instrument. On the one hand, black musicians took up playing instruments by virtue of their true love for music. They used music to express their ideas and inner pains. On the other hand, there were many pubs in New Orleans, and in order to make a living, many black musicians played jazz music in pubs. Gradually, many professional white musicians found this unique new music, starting to be strong interested in it and played the music with black people. With constantly exploration and cooperation between white musicians and black musicians, two distinct music styles mutually mixed. Finally, jazz music was nurturing and developing quickly in New Orleans.

In the city, there are many musicians. With the efforts of some musicians, such as King Oliver,Jellyroll Morton,Louis Armstrong,Sidney Bechet and Bix Beuderbecke, New Orleans’ jazz music came into a peak. When it comes to jazz, Louis Armstrong is the first one that people may first think of. He is called “the father of jazz”. His nickname is Uncle Satchmo, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. He was taught to play instruments when he lived the Municipal Waif’s Home which was for boys. Armstrong to Jazz music is what Bach to classical music and Elvis Presley to rock and roll. Armstrong had a big impact on the development of jazz. At the beginning of the 30's, he fused solo and the swing style into this kind of music which emphasize on the collective improvisation. Then he changed performance from collective improvisation to solo. Armstrong showed his great talent as an improviser. He expressed the lyrics and melody well with his special voice. Thanks to Armstrong, jazz music started to reach other parts of the United States.

What a wonderful world is Louis Armstrong’s most famous song. It was first sang by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1968. In the 60s of last century, the song was composed under the increasingly racial and political issues. The rhythm of the song is hopeful and positive. For people at that time, the song was regard as antidote. The composer used newborn baby to express their yearning for new life and hope for the future. At the very beginning, the song was not a hit in the United States, because the leaders of ABC Records did not like it and did not make promotion. Yet the song achieved great success in the United Kingdom. As a result that Louis Armstrong became the oldest single winner when he was 66 years old. At the same time, jazz music became more and more popular and got its reputation in other countries.

Jazz, an important aspect of American culture, is a reflection of the times which jazz music developed flourishingly. It had also affected the American culture. When jazz first emerged, it was associated with mostly African Americans only. However, in 1924, a concert which was organized by Paul Whiteman, introduced jazz music to white people. From that moment, many white people found themselves like jazz because of this concert. Therefore, to some extent, jazz brought different cultures and races together. Blacks suffered a lot from slavery.
