Following the analytic framework of pre-service middle school EFL teachers’ PCK for grammar instruction proposed in Section 3.3, we are now trying to present the results through multiple data sources, including classroom observation, pre- and post-observation structured interviews, stimulated recalls, and documentation. In this chapter, we mainly focus on the two research questions, namely, how was these two pre-service EFL teachers’ PCK embodied and realized in junior middle school grammar instruction and what are the factors that affect these components come into being. We will answer these two questions one by one. Miss A believed that the purpose of grammar instructions could, by no means, be separated from the global objectives of English teaching. According to Miss A, grammar teaching, on the one hand, should “help students use the language correctly” (Miss A: Pre-observation Interview 1, Oct. 21, 2015), that is, students were supposed to have some knowledge of grammar rules.
