摘要:The term of moral panic first appeared in the British sociologist Jock Young’s book ‘The Drug Takers’ (Young,1971). Young used the term (moral panic) to explain the irrational worries and warnings which often happen suddenly and were caused by the hypothetical ‘crime trend’ or other assumed evidence as social disorder and social breakdown (including sexual hybridization and migration). And media are considered to have the tendency of extending this ‘panic’. Researches on the value of moral panic can be divided into many schools, CCCS(The Center for Contemporary Cultural Studies, CCCS for short) is one of the schools which has much influential, they think that moral panic is ruling class’s trick to preserve its economic interests. However, more and more facts and studies have proved that this view is controversial (Hall, 173), this essay first review relevant literatures of CCCS’ relate to moral panic, then it put forward a critical analysis towards it, finally, it draws a conclusion on the value of moral panic.
