e analysis of errors betweenCLEC and native speaker corpus from the cognitive part of view in their researches.However, the author made research employing all levels of the whole CELC and made thecomparison between them in present thesis.Till now, researches on the errors of prepositions based on corpus are not very much,especially in writings of large quantities of the Chinese English learners in different levels.Owing to the limitations of the previous studies, this thesis will explore the errors ofprepositions used by the Chinese English learners based on CLEC.


  
  1.2 The Purpose and Significance of the Study研究意义和目的
  In modem times, more and more individuals leam English as a foreign language both inclassroom and society. Writing skill is important and indispensable to all of learners whenthey want to express their thoughts and ideas. However, when committing errors incompositions, learners usually ignore them because in Chinese it is “right,,. Therefore, itdemands learners to pay much attention to the differences between Chinese and Englishand to discern them when reading English articles and writing English compositions.There are some reasons for focusing on the errors. First, it is an obvious feature oflearners' language, raising the important question of “why do learners commit errors?"Second, it is of benefit to language teaching. Third, errors may help learners to leam whenthey self-correct the errors they committed. Although the learners try to avoid errors,thanks to errors, they will understand themselves better.The functional words convey a little meaning in English. And the typical usage ofEnglish prepositions is connecting the nouns or other word classes with them. It is easy forChinese learners to commit errors in utilization of English prepositions, partly for theydon't possess rich meanings and fewer prepositions are employed in Chinese writing. Thethesis attempts to study the errors of English prepositions in the Chinese Learner EnglishCorpus (CLEC) based on the relevant theories of error analysis (EA) and corpuslinguistics methodology. The purpose of the thesis is to find out the tendency and featuresof Chinese English learners' prepositions error and tries to find their reasons in CLEC.According to the statistics from CLEC by Gui Shichun, prepositions error is one ofmain errors occurring in Chinese English learners' writings. However, a number of studiesfocus on prepositional collocations. And the error-proneness of prepositions by ChineseEnglish learners has not been attached many analyses. Therefore, the thesis is carried outto investigate the errors of preposition. In present thesis, the preposition errors committedby Chinese learners were collected by the author with assistance of software and analyzedin classified details. The aim of the study is to make Chinese learners avoid committingerrors as possible as they can.


  
  1.3 The Organization of Thesis论文结构
  The present thesis is mainly comprised of five chapters. The first chapter serves as theintroduction which deals with the purpose and significance of the study, a general outlineof the thesis. The second chapter focuses on the literature review, including the concept oferror analysis (EA) and its procedure, some previous researches on the EA, and thesignificance of EA, the knowledge of inter-language (IL), corpus linguistics and someinformation about English preposition.
