Conclusion


Potential influences of language testing on individuals, Educational system andthe whole society are beyond doubt. Thereby, from the perspectives of theory andpractice, the paper has done the complete research about washback effect of testing tomake sure that NMET English test has influences on teaching, to make sure the scope,depth and breadth of influence, to make sure the direction of influence, positive orbeneficial effect, or negative or harmful effect, to make sure specific aspects ofinfluences, such as curriculum arrangement, teaching content, teaching method,achievement evaluation, and so on. Most teachers think that reading test withexcessive use of multiple-choices may not totally measure authentic reading levels ofstudents, but they still use multiple-choices to test reading. Most class time is spent inunderstanding reading comprehension of textbooks, but the time spent on test-takingcomponents of Grade Three is increased. Teachers focus on explanations of languagepoints and important sentence structures in reading class. They usually ask students toread articles quickly and to find out the main idea of the articles, and they also teachsome reading skills and strategies. Teachers enhance reading speed, select appropriatematerials, teach reading skills and cultivate students’ vocabulary knowledge. The aimis to play a positive washback effect of testing in the future of teaching, and to avoidthe negative washback effect of testing as much as possible.
Through the investigation and analysis of the paper, we can draw the conclusionthat NMET English reading test of Liaoning Province has obvious positive washbackeffect on teaching and learning. Most teachers and students think highly of NMET,especially the proposition way, Assessment standard, test content and the latestmeasure. NMET has had a significant impact on curriculum arrangement, the scope,depth and breadth of teaching, teaching content, teaching method and strategy,achievement evaluation, and so on. In summary, NMET makes curriculumarrangement more reasonable, and “forces” teachers to strive to increase theefficiency of the classroom and applying classroom teaching strategies flexibly, inorder to adapt to new requirement constantly mentioned by NMET in the respect oftesting students’ language application abilities. Teachers have known the importanceof selecting optimum textbook and teaching methods in recognized classroomstructure, and no longer blindly did simulation tests and paid more attention to the cultivation of students’ pragmatic competences.
