In order to arouse students’ learning interest, to get all students’ multiple intelligencesinto full display, and to attain a better achievement in language teaching, teachers are required to designinstructional activities based on students’ diversified intellectual strengths and weaknesses.MI theory proposes that every person is born with all the eight intelligences and each intelligence canbe developed to a certain degree through sufficient practice. This testifies that students can becomeall-round from the biological perspective.https://www.51lunwen.org/reading/  Therefore, MI theory can supply a theoretical basis for theall-round development of students.In all, multiple intelligences theory conforms to the present situation of education reform in ourcountry; the application of the theory will help to realize students’ all-round development and the tendencyof quality education. Therefore, the author intends to explore the effectiveness of applying MultipleIntelligences theory to the teaching of English reading in order to improve the achievements of Englishreading teaching in junior high school. If the result of the experiment is positive, it will have great practicalimportance in improving English reading teaching in junior high school in our country.

 

1.2 Research Objectives研究目标
In this thesis the author intends to study the application of multiple intelligences theory to the teachingof English reading in junior high school. This study is undertaken to find out whether the application of MItheory in English reading class will arouse students’ interest and build up their confidence in learningEnglish, and whether it will promote students’ English reading proficiency.The research questions to be addressed in the study will focus on the following:(1) In what way will the application of MI theory in English reading class arouse students’ Englishlearning interest and promote their motivation?(2) To what extent will the application of MI theory in English reading class improve students’ readingability and grades?The experiment study is carried out for one term in Shangqiu No. 13 Middle School; data related tothese research questions will be collected and analyzed.

 

1.3 Organization of the Thesis论文结构
This thesis is made up of six chapters.In the first chapter, research background, research questions and organization of the thesis areanalyzed.Chapter two is the literature review. In this chapter, background of multiple intelligences theory is firstintroduced. Then description of multiple intelligences theory is provided. The comparison betweentraditional view of intelligence and multiple intelligence theory is followed. After that, implications of MItheory in education and teaching practice are presented. Lastly, researches on MI theory abroad and inChina are provided.In chapter three, the application of MI theory in English reading class is discussed. Firstly, anoverview of English reading and multiple intelligences theory are presented. Then the author discusses theapplication of MI theory to the teaching of English reading. Instructions on designing activities for Englishreading lesson are provided.In chapter four, the research methodology is introduced. Research questions and hypothesis are raisedat first.
