All these students needed to study English for 18 weeks. The experimental group has six classes in English each week. Fifteen minutes in each English course are listening comprehension (total 90 minutes). While control group have two (about 90 minutes) listening comprehension course. Both the experimental and the comparison groups followed the syllabi of senior English course.

The students in the experimental group not only followed the syllabus, but also receive instruction in immersion way throughout 18-week class (See Graph 2.2.1).

It is very important to undertake the whole process in English, and the materials of listening comprehension course are selected from dialogues between native speakers. The contents concerns about
history, politics, economy, literature, daily life and other fields of English countries.
Teachers introduce new words and the background knowledge of these materials, and encourage students in discussion and doing listening and speaking practice run through the whole process. According to the principle of immersion education, all activities should carry out in English. So the teacher should pay more attention to his oral English and interaction of students. The purpose of teaching is to improve the capabilities of using English through natural, authentic activities in class. This English course emphasized on the language content and meaningful drilling.
The students in comparison group followed the syllabus in traditional grammar-translation method at the same time (See Graph 2.2.2).

In this course, teachers play the recorder again and again to present listening materials, and check the answers. It is a simple cycle and mechanical process. Teachers teach in traditional grammar-translation way, and this method is widely carried out in ordinary senior English classes. The listening comprehension materials are selected from normal test-paper. In every lesson, there are several grammar rules, short vocabulary lists, and some practice examples to translate. The purpose of teaching is to pass the college entrance examination. The English course focused on the language form and the grammar accuracy of English.
In traditional listening comprehension course, teachers play an important part in analysis and illustration, and students are passive learner. The form of teaching is dull, and students are easily boring. However, the immersion listening comprehension course is a complex learning process.
