Throughout the United States, diplomas are being held or delivered to students based on success or failure upon the standardized tests. Students complete years of receiving high grades and achievements to failing one test and being rejected the ticket of success -a diploma. Requiring a student to pass a standardized test to receive a high school diploma will not determine if our schools educational and academics standards will improve. The approval of graduating should not be based upon selective tests. Students should be able to receive a diploma if he or she has the ability to pass the classes enrolled in throughout high school. By teachers teaching the test items and pressuring the students daily, test scores will constantly decrease. Although the standardized tests are a great way to measure the yearly progress in the students, many students are being pressure and forced to neglect materials, others are facing chances of dropping out of school. Numerous teachers are focusing on high scores, and students are trying to digest the materials the best way possible while facing many different testing skills and/or other discriminations.
Focusing on high scoring results, many teachers around the world are failing to teach the basics of a subject. Only seeing dollar signs in students, teachers around the world are getting paid for the students' high scores. Some teachers urge money, while other teachers are trying not to be portrayed as a bad teacher. Several teachers omit non-tested material and teach the test. 'Independent researchers have found that evaluating and paying teachers for test scores is either damaging or irrelevant to improved learning' ('Paying Teachers'). By getting money for achievements, the reasons teachers rather teach the test and neglect the importance of other material furthers. 'Payments for 'performance' will exacerbate damage to the curriculum by NCLB' ('Paying Teachers'). When money is gained for scores the educational problems rise. While numerous teachers are being paid for high scores, others are sitting under a large amount of pressure.
Checking to see if students are achieving the basic standards is a good reason why standardized tests should be taking. Although the standardized tests are a great way to measure the yearly progress in the students, many students are being pressure and forced to neglect materials, others are facing chances of dropping out of school.
The amount of pressure put upon the students and teachers varies depending on how well materials are taught and processed. Being punished for making a bad score has become many students greatest fear. While the kids fear punishment of low scores, the teachers fear a job loss. Being put down or looked down upon also fear many teachers. When a teacher is under a lot of stress and pressure to teach the test, the joy of teaching vanishes. When a person is under fear and pressure, low performance and stress is the outcome. The pressure also results in health issues and negativity towards learning in the future.
