Abstract
The series of 007 films have created a miracle in the film
history because of their popularity and classics contents for a long time. From the beginning of the first 007 film named Dr. No (1962) up to the latest film named Casino Royale (2006), people have been following them closely and taking them as a sort of tidal current only for their relaxed entertainment provided by themselves. However, with the flourishing development of cultural researches in western countries, more and more scholars have been aware that they can not take this sort of pop culture too for granted. For the extensive spectator basis and idol effect, this sort of pop culture, for instance, the series of 007 films, has a kind of might can not be ignored in establishing discourse authority and carrying out cultural hegemony. The knowledge structure disseminated though films are also worth noticing. This paper will use an orientalist critical method, start out from these tow poles of ‘I’-‘He/She/They’ (the Occident and the Orient) (Sun Meng 2006) and explore a compete set of orientalist hegemony discourse which states ‘I’ and ‘He/She/They’, it means the Occident and the Orient. This kind of orientalist hegemony discourse permeates some sort of thinking taking Europe as the centre. It takes European culture as the absolute criterion to measure other cultures, and it has an effect on occidental views to the Orient. At the same time, as long as the Occident has been grasping this sort of hegemony discourse, the power relationship between the Occident and the Orient will go on keeping the current situation. The Orient will still be put on the edge of main aspect of culture, and will still be regarded as ‘He/She/They’ different from the Occident. In oriental hearts, their real thoughts can not be stated in the world of being full of colonial discourse. They will still be reticent ‘He/She/They’.
