Abstract: D. H. Lawrence's Sons and Lovers, the focus of this thesis, is his third novel and first masterpiece. It is celebrated as a pioneering achievement in English fiction and is now one of the most widely read of English novels. Most critics in general analyze and evaluate Sons and Lovers by adopting a psychoanalytical or social approach. The discussion up to date either just hunts for Oedipus Complex or is strictly confined to content analysis. This thesis, however, attempts to compensate for the separation of form from content by focusing on the seemingly minor character Walter Morel and his tragedy situation.

Abstract:
The issue of the translator’s subjective role in the research of translation has gained more and more attention because of the four factors of subjectivity. The role of the subjectivity in the process of translation，which can be perceived in translation by different translators. This paper aims to analyze how the subjectivity plays its role during translation as well as the difference in subjectivity which affects the translation version. The former research all seem to analyze form one perspective, so the author tends to make a research on subjectivity from all the factors it contained
In the introduction, the author of this paper introduces the background and significance of the research. In the first chapter, the definition of the translator’s subjectivity has been given in which the subjective factors have been analyzed, such as personal aesthetic attitude, experience and mentalities, translator’s trust and aggression, personal linguistic competence and performance, ideology and poetics. In addition, the process of the display of those factors has been illustrated. Next, the incorporation has been combined with the domestication and foreignation, which are strategies in the process with the purpose of incorporation. Analysis on what has influenced on the choice of the strategies has been carried out which are mostly the personal experience and language competence. In the third chapter, the significance of translators subjects the cultural compensation has been analyzed. As the aggressive behavior with personal differences among the translators, the cultural loss in incorporation is unavoidable. It is necessary for a translator to have the creative capability and improve their ability together with the method to translate the source text more vividly.

We conclude that, the subjectivity play a great role in translation and as the subjectivity different, the effect of each translator gained is different. The four factors should be taken into further research for a better translation effect. That is the further research should not limit in how to translate but how to play the role of the subjectivity better.
