It is something that managers have created consciously or unconsciously and run throughout a business, with obvious beliefs, thriving business philosophy and operations, and emphasis on importance on personnel and customer fulfilment. To a great extent, those at the pinnacle, with their example of words and activities, decide the goals, beliefs and values of the organisation. Investigation into what was behind the success of Japanese companies in the 1980's was what generated the interest in corporate culture.
The reason for this success was attributed to their unique and core organisational values. Peters & Waterman (1982) however believe that organisations can excel without necessarily having Japanese origin. In deed companies like IBM confirmed this by becoming successful with their US influenced corporate culture. A strong corporate culture with deep thoughts beliefs and values which are shared could lead to successful business performance. In Ghana, the interest in corporate culture came in the early 1990's when some multinationals tried to differentiate themselves from other domestic companies with distinct values and business practice (Enterprise foundation, 1998). Increased competition in the banking and insurance sector facilitated this interest in corporate culture, and has reached a level where prospective employees especially professionals look out for when joining companies or organisations.

These studies show that segregation is the main reason for gender inequality in the gender market and therefore also for career mobility, promotion, unequal wages and authority.
