4.1 Translation at Lexical Level

When we translate a book, a text, a paragraph or even a sentence, we usually start it from a word, which is the fundamental component of a sentence and the minimum unit of a text, the translation of words is an important part of the whole translation (Hu, 1994).

In this part, to bridge the gap between the original and the target readers and also to obtain better communicative effect, the translator discovered that a number of words need to be added, several words need to be omitted, and a few of words need to be converted in part of speech. Therefore, by analyzing the cases from the selected excerpt, the translator will summarize the translation methods at the lexical level from three aspects: addition, omission and conversion. 

4.1.1 Addition

To faithfully convey the meaning of the source text, addition is a widely used translation method. Addition refers to following certain rules and adding some words or sentences that are included in the actual content of the original text although they do not appear literally.

5.1 Findings

Through this translation practice, the translator has accumulated translation experience and gained a deeper understanding of the original text and Communicative Translation Theory.

Firstly, the translator has learned many new skills, especially searching skills, which are significant for translating various texts. Besides using search tools, such as Google, Bing, Baidu and etc., the translator should try to find the English explanation instead of directly searching its Chinese translation when dealing with a confusing word, because English explanation can help the translator better understand the meaning of the word. In addition, the translator has realized that it is essential to clarify the logic of the source text and adjust the translation according to the context. If the sentences in the source text are translated separately, the content of the translated text will be illogical, which will bring obstacles to the target readers. 

Secondly, the translator has learned a lot about mangroves forests.
