gley. But he would not do so for he believed there was no love between them. As for Elizabeth, he likes her because she is quick
and clever. Gradually his admiration grows into real love. At first he did worry about the disadvantages of marrying Elizabeth, especially the vulgar behaviour of some of her family members and the humble position of her rolatives. But at last his love for her succeeded in overcoming his vanity and he put love above all.
Elizabeth, like Darcy, also seeks for true love. She will by no means accept a marriage with on love. She regards the marriage of her parents,in which there is no love, as painful, unfortunate and not beneficial to the children. Since she had no fortune, she would not have refused Mr.Collins, offer of marriage, had she only considered property and a comfortable
life. She is not that sort of person. She dispises Collins, personality and expressed her dislike frankly. Thus she rejected hiin resolutely. Her first impressions of Darcy were very bad. She was annoyed with hispride and didn,t like him at all. Besides, she thought that Darcy didn,t love her nor respect her. She rejected his offer of marriage the first timen when she said resolutely, ayou are the last man in the world whom I can ever be prevailed on to marry. n She once fell in love wit h Darcy, in order to gain real love, she did not hesitate in expressing her feelings frankly.
As to the relations between Jane and Bingley, Darcy and Elizabeth paid the ciosest attention to whether they loved each other. Her keen observation and her understanding of the two helped Elizabeth to see that they did love each other. She felt happy for their sake, and was concerned with their joy and sorrow. But Darcy, at first, misunderstood that Jane had no affection for Bingley besides enjoying Bingley”s attentions. So he tried to separate them for fear that they would be unhappy for the rest of their life if they should marry. Not until he re?lized that Jane really loved Bingley did he begin to help this couple.
We think the marriage of the hero and the heroine a success not only because it grows out of true love but also because this love purifies people”s spirit. Love is a strong force that can make and form nobler character.
The author wrote, "It was a union that must have been to the advantage of both; by her ease and liveliness, his mind might have softened, his manners improved, and from his judgement, information, and knowledge of the world, she must have received benefit of great importance. n
Out of love, Darcy offered to marry Elizabeth. On account of his pride, he was refused. If he had attached first importance to his noble family, his property and his appearance” he would not have tried to overcome his pride and would have stopped paying any more attention to
Elizabeth. He would have even got angry at her rejection. But love over, comes all at the end of the painful struggle. It is but love which gives Darcy strength to overcome his pride, to be more polite, modest and attentive. This is the effect of love and he receives benefit from love now that he has turned into a lovable and respectable man. Love also makes such a proud person criticize hirnself and admit his shortcomings.Hesaid to Elizabeth, ayour reproof, so well applled, Ishall never forget: `had you behaved in a more gentlemanlike manner” Thosewere yourwords.
