atmosphere and the open space and fighting spirit of the people there were rooted in his young mind. Though his father died when Ellison was still three years old, he was luckily to read many books because his mother supported the family and brought many books and magazines for Ellison from the place where she worked. And he was also lucky enough to read many books from a library and his horizon was greatly broadened. During his teenage years, Ellison and his friends believed that they had the ability and power to do whatever they want in life as well as or better than men of any race. Ellison showed his talents in playing trumpet, he spent time in playing football, working at small jobs and experimenting in electronics. He won a scholarship in the state of the Oklahoma and left Oklahoma to Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. There Ellison excelled in his music program as well as took a liking to his sociology and sculpture classes outside classroom Alabama provided. However, Ellison was not pleased with the desire of the states people, black and white to categorize him. Ellison again dropped into libraries to study literature. Admiring T. S. Eliot’s elusive, lyricism in “The Waste Land” and disappointed in the limited capacity of African-American literature at this point, he practiced playing with force of words as he found Eliot to do. Still Ellison continued to write reviews. Then he published his first short stories such as “Slick Goanna Learn”, “The Birthmark king of the Bingo Game ” and “Flying Home”. In the early years of the Second World War, Ellison edited Negro Quarterly and began Invisible Man. Leaving away from leftist politics and its champion, Wright. Ellison joined the Merchant Marine and many of his stories took on wartime flair. The quality of his writing reached masterful proportions by the end of the Second World War as he had learned to incorporate the likes of Twain, Faulkner, Dostoevsky and Hemingway into his work, his own voice arose in full power and in 1952 published Invisible Man. That is a brief introduction about Ellison’s life until the publishing of his first long fiction Invisible Man.
