摘要:In the latter decades of last century, more importance was attached to culturelearning and teaching in the study of foreign language learning and teaching. Chinesescholars represented by Hu and Gao proposed that language and culture areinseparable.
2.2 Cultural Identity
To talk about cultural identity, we are trying to answer the question: who I am.According to Elizabeth Stone, "The particular human chain we're part of is central toour individual identity" (Samovar, 2007). Some people find that the question: "who Iam" is relatively easy and be able to produce a lengthy list of identifiers while othersstraggle to write down only a few items. The answers to the question: 'Svho I am"offer insight into various kinds of identities. In the study of modem culture, the word "identity" has two basic meanings. Onerefers to the basis and Reference for some individuals or groups to ratify and locatetheir social position or status,like gender,class and race. The other refers toacknowledging and identifying their cultural position and status.Cultural identity is the “sense of belonging to certain culture and the group ofthat culture" (Lustig & Koester, 2003). It is "one's perception of one's self thatincorporates the world view, value system, attitudes and beliefs of a group witii whichsuch information and elements are shared. Cultural identity may refer to themembership of a racial, ethnic, regional, economic, or any other social conunimityexhibiting characteristic patterns of behavior sufficient to distinguish it from others. Itencompasses all types of identities associated with social and cultural groups such asnational identity, ethnic identity, group identity, etc," (Collier & Thomas, 1998).
