摘要:My paper mainly explores the application of experiential learning theory to collegeEnglish writing, aiming at improving the students’ writing competence of non-English majors.
2.2 The Development of Experiential Learning Theory Aboard
Experiential learning can be traced to Plato and Aristotle in foreign countries, whosediscussions are forces on rationalism and empiricism. Rationalists hold that knowledge is notcredible if it is based on personal experience, while, empiricists hold that knowledge comesfrom experience. In 1787, Immanuel Kant made some explanations about this discussion. Hesaid that rational and experience played the same role in the construction of humanknowledge. However, the experiential learning went into a research field and formed alearning model in 1938, when John Dewey put forward a famous educational idea thateducation was the reformation and reorganization of experience. According to V. Kohonen(1992) experiential learning theory has close relations to John Dewey’s education in highereducation, Lewin’s sociophychology and Piaget’s cognitive development. In the next part, thetheories of John Dewey, Kurt Lewin, Piaget and Kolb will be introduced, who are the leadingfigures of the experiential learning. Based on these three leading figures’ theories, David Kolbput up with the experiential learning theory.
