ation of English has brought about more and more variationsduring its constant flourishing and spreading.The plural form Englishes frequently appears so as to represent so many Englishvarieties existing in the world. To promote international academic and cultural exchanges,studies on varieties of English is attracting growing attention from English linguistics,sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics, researchers and educators across the world since thelate 1970s.This thesis begins with a brief introduction of the inevitability of English spreading anddeveloping as an international language, followed by the literature review of previous studies on World Englishes based on Kachru's Three Concentric Circles Theory. The definiteconnection between English globalization and variations is theoretically explained. Thisthesis puts emphasis on the variations of English in China, and the acculturation andlocalization of English variation in Chinese cultural context will be analyzed systematically.

Chapter 2 Theoretical Foundation of the Thesis

It is acknowledged that the distributional data need to be interpreted within a theoreticalframework. This chapter is a significant integrative contribution to the theoretical supportand analytical method, which concerns the theoretical framework and research method,elaborating relevant theories and methods, arrangement of the research and the sources fromwhich language materials, samples and data come from.

2.1 Correlation of language, thought and culture
It seems evident that there is a closest of relationship between language, thought and culture.The degree to which our languages control our thoughts has been an important issues haveexercised generations of philosophers, psychologists and linguists for centuries to uncoverlayers of complexity in these apparently straightforward questions. As both language andthought are culture-bound, the heated arguments in recent decades have been furtherextended to the relationship between language and culture.The milestones in its development are generally represented by the following scholarsas: Wilhelm von Humboldt, F-Boas, E-Sapir, B-Whorf. Among them，Humboldt firstexpounds the language relativity more systematically and explicitly and places great valueon the diversity of the world's languages and cultures.
The tradition is taken up by the American linguist and anthropologist Edward Sapir andhis pupil Benjamin Lee Whorf and resulted in a view about the relation between languagesand thought which was widely influential in the middle decades of this century. The"Sapir-Whorf hypothesis", as it came to be called，highlights Sapir's and Whorf s viewpointsof the relationship between language and thought. They hold that language and thought aresomewhat interwoven. The first is known as linguistic determinism: it states that languagedetermines the way we think, and linguistic categories determine world-view and perception.Linguistic determinism is a partial assumption presumes that the way the language isorganized will determine how people perceive the world being organized. That is, languageand its structures limit determine human knowledge or thought.
