摘要:听,说,读,写四个基本和主要的外国语言学习技能。英语学习者都知道,学生应发展听,说,读,写能力。

key word. Longman Modern English Dictionary interprets “passage” to be “an esp. briefextract from a literary or musical work”. The explanation in Webster’s New CollegiateDictionary is “Passage is a usu. brief portion of a written work or speech that is relevant to apoint under discussion or noteworthy for content or style.” From the explanation, we can seethat “passage” possesses the basic elements of text, such as the key point (theme), content(semantics), and style. Therefore, text has relatively dependent ideographic function and communicative function. Hu Zhuanglin (1994) points out: “Text can be a word, a shortsentence, a couplet, a poem, an essay, a diary, a novel, a slogan, a song, a conversation, aquarrel, and a speech which lasts for three hours….” From which we can get such conceptthat any visible and audible production of human’s language activity can be text, which hasthe following characteristics:

Conclusion


Although there are several limitations, the research demonstrates that text recitation isstill a very effective method to improve English writing teaching and students’ writingabilities. So text recitation can not be ignored. We should continue to do the research andpractice it in order to maximize its effectiveness in teaching and learning. At present, there aremore and more researches on recitation. The author suggests teachers should innovate uponthis traditional learning strategy. A combination of various methods is always more effectivethan any single one. Future research on text recitation may be carried out from the followingaspects:
First, in the aspect of research scale, it is recommended that future researchers expand thescale of research. A larger sample size may enable researchers to obtain more insights of howlearners vary in using recitation.
