Conclusion

In this thesis, the author presents overall acquisition of English vowels producedby Chinese subjects. The overall acquisition can be reflected by scores conducted byfive native speakers and the author through perception. Secondly, the acousticrepresentations of monophthongs have been reported and discussed, consisting threemajor parts: the acoustic features of front vowels, central vowels and back vowels. Atlast, the author tries to discuss the negative transfer of Henan dialect and Anhuidialect on English vowel pronunciation learning.According to the results of this study, it can be concluded that the vowelpronunciation of non-English majors’ college students are lack of accuracy, thoughthey understand the importance of pronunciation learning. The fact is that they areunable to do what they hope to do.
Compared with the female subjects, the acoustic features of Englishmonophthongs by male subjects are mostly similar to RPSs’. Both male and femalesubjects have big problems with the acquisition of vowels  compare theother vowels.In my opinion, in addition to the common mistakes that we should pay attentionto in English pronunciation, the dialect habits should also be considered, especiallyfor the English learners, how to reduce the negative transfer and improve the Englishpronunciation is a very realistic problem, and it is a very important task and has a longway to go. I hope this thesis can provide some help for students to really master theEnglish vowel pronunciation.
In order to make sure the experiment more accurate and reliable, muchpreparation has been made for this research, but the experimental results also havesome limitations, that is owing to subjective conditions and objective conditionslimited in the process of the whole experiment.First of all, the limitation is the subjectivity of scoring by these five RP nativespeakers. Although the criteria for scoring are given, the subjectivity in scoringprocess could not be avoided.Secondly, only monophthongs are examined objectively by the Praat, thediphthongs have not been examined by it, so it is only a rough research to test vowelsfrom a acoustic point.
