4.3.2 Culture-Introduction through Western Festivals
Celebrating foreign festivals is a favorite activity of many students. In recent years, to celebrate Western holidays becomes popular among college students such as St Valentine's Day, April Fool's Day, Mother's day, Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day etc. Teachers can regard it as a breakthrough point of inputting cultural knowledge into English study. Even though this activity takes a lot of time, it works great. Teachers can help to prepare for the festival by drawing posters and decorating the room. At the same time, teachers can help students make a comparison between Western festivals and Chinese ones. For instance, at Christmas time, teachers can teach some Christmas songs and tell some folk stories about Christmas or even some stories from Bible.

The world is changing so fast, so are the languages. Time is changing, culture is changing, so are the languages. A language and its culture exist inseparably. A language carries a culture, and it is part of culture. Teaching a language is teaching a culture. Therefore, culture-introduction is so necessary. With the enhancement of the globalization and the communication among the world, languages with cultures have been paid much more attention. As for teachers, they should focus their sight on students, educating them adaptive, sociable and capable. Last but not least, culture-introduction should be put on the first place.
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that culture-introduction is necessary, and the present situation shows that culture-introduction arouses wide concern. This paper introduces many effective ways of culture-introduction in order to help students have a better understanding and using language properly, overcome culture blocks when they communicate with others, and enhance the ability of intercultural communication and promote language teaching.
