4.1 A General Analysis of Attitudinal Resources

The appraisal system can analyze the views and positions of language users.Attitude refers to the judgement and appreciation of human behavior,texts or processes,and phenomena after psychological influence.Therefore,the attitude is divided intothree subsystems:affect,judgement,and appreciation.Of these three subsystems,theaffect subsystem is the core,which derives the judgement and appreciation subsystems.

Martin&White(2005)pointed out that attitude is related to our feelings,includingemotional reactions,judgement about behavior,and evaluations of things.Moreover,the evaluation not only stays on the surface of the language but looks at the deepmeaning orientation through the surface meaning,which we often call“seeing theessence through phenomena”.Therefore,it is interpretive and explanatory.This thesisanalyzes English teacher talk from the three subsystems of attitudinal resources:affect,judgement,and appreciation.Appraisal theory has three systems,which are attitude,engagement,and graduation.Furthermore,there are three subcategories in the attitudesystem,which are affect,judgement,and appreciation.Many specific sentenceexamples are used to analyse the attitudinal resources in the teacher’s classroomdiscourse.Through the transcription and coding of teacher talk and the marking and counting of teachers’attitudes in the corpus,the following table shows the distributionof attitudinal resources in the corpus.

5.1 Major Findings

Based on the analysis and discussion of the attitudinal resources in the threeteacher talk in the previous chapter,the research findings are concluded in two aspects.

Firstly,by marking and counting the attitudinal resources of the three teachers inclassroom discourse,we can see that there is a richness of attitudinal resources inteacher talk.There are a total of 802 attitudinal resources in the corpus,including affectresources,judgement resources,and appreciation resources.Of these,the largestnumber is appreciation resources,with a total of 407,which accounts for 50.75%.Thesecond is judgement resources,a total of 255,accounting for 31.79%.Finally,thefewest are the affect resources,with a total of 140,accounting for 17.46%.All foursubsystems of affect resources appear in the corpus.Among them,there are 55dis/inclination resources,which account for 39.28%of the total.It is 论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
