Globalisation has had a transformative effect on the manner in which business is conducted and organized today;it has also had a significant impact on the legal framework. The influence of multinational corporations has increased drastically. This particularly the case for developing nations, they compete with one another in order to attract foreign direct investment. Conventionally, the International Labour Standards (ILS) was laid down by the International Labour Organization (ILO) (Bronstein, 2009). In this paper,a discussion is presented on how labour laws can be rendered more effective for the sake of addressing the plight of workers. Further, the discussion analyses how the current International Labour Organization through International Labour Standards protects the workers across the world and the associated challenges.
2. The International Labour Standards 国际劳工标准

The international labour standards generally refer to legal conventions that are drawn up by the constituents of the ILO and they state the essential rights and principals at work. Theyare laid out in conventions of the International Labour Organization and together they constitute the international labour code (Gladstone, 1986).

It also promotes competition that is constructive by fostering collective rights like taking part in the decision making process, upgrade the motivation and productivity of the employees, increasing the overall demand by adding the earnings, and the promotion of active labour market policy and employment creation (Valticos, 1979).
