4.1 The Current Situation of Using MRS
In this part, the questionnaire data and interview data will be analyzed and discussed. Firstly, the current situation of students’ use of MRS will be represented. Secondly, the gender and grade differences in the use of MRS will be represented.
4.1.1 The Overall Situation of Using MRS
This section analyzes the general pattern of motivational regulation strategies of middle school learners. Data were collected for Grade One and Grade Two at two schools. Table 4-1 shows descriptive statistics for the general use of motivational regulation strategies.

5.1 Major Findings
In this part, some major findings will be represented. Firstly, the current situation in the use of MRS will be represented. Secondly, the effect of the use of MRS on academic performance will be represented.
5.1.1 Current Situation in the Use of MRS
Firstly, in this research, all the junior high school students adopted these eight motivational regulation strategies, which can promote their English learning motivation. The frequency of using these strategies was in higher level. Junior high school students used these strategies very frequently. Overall, intrinsic motivation were used more frequently than extrinsic motivation.
Secondly, this study found that there were differences between male and female learners on the usage of MRS. Female learners used strategies more frequently during language learning than male learners. These findings also provided additional support for female’s higher achievement in foreign language learning.
Thirdly, this study also found that students in Grade One used motivational regulation strategies more frequently than students in Grade Two. In terms of grade differences in the use of MRS, the two grades differed in the way they used self-monitoring.
