本文是一篇初中英语教学论文,本研究通过atest、问卷调查和访谈收集了定量和定性数据。问卷调查结果从四个方面揭示了英语小组语篇阅读教学的有效实施。首先,对于小组文本阅读教学的感知和认知,虽然有13位英语教师对英语小组文本阅读知之甚少,但大多数英语教师都认为英语小组文本阅读教学的重要性和优势,并强调其对学生阅读兴趣、阅读理解能力的积极影响,批判性思维能力和文本分析能力。
Chapter One Introduction
1.1 Research Background
English Teaching in China has made great progress in recent decades, but thereare still some problems in English reading teaching, including limited reading quantity,inadequate reading enthusiasm and poor reading ability. How to use scientific andeffective methods to mobilize students’ enthusiasm in reading, cultivate their readingcompetence and improve the teaching efficiency and quality in English class need tobe urgently explored. Meanwhile, the Compulsory Education English CurriculumStandard (2011 Edition) stipulates that students must meet the requirement of morethan 150000 words of extracurricular reading when they graduate from junior highschool. However, it is hard to attain the goal due to students’ limited vocabulary, badreading habits and inadequate English extracurricular reading materials. Group textreading teaching could solve these problems. It requires students to read 3-5 texts andcomplete the corresponding reading tasks in a unit time (45 minutes) targeted at oneor more topics. This reading teaching method might not only increase the students’English reading quantity and enlarge their vocabulary, but also broaden their readinghorizon, improve their reading efficiency and cultivate their critical thinking skills.
Group text reading teaching developed fast abroad in the wake of NarrowReading proposed by Krashen (1996). Since “the Third Children’s Reading andChinese Creative Teaching Demo and Discussion Activity” held in 2013, theadvocation of group text reading teaching has been officially put on the agenda inChina, aiming at improving students’ reading competence. Although it is a newreading teaching method, it has been recognized by front-line Chinese teachers assoon as it was proposed, and in-depth theoretical researches and practical attemptshave been carried out constantly and developed rapidly. Nowadays, the group textreading teaching in Chinese subject has achieved remarkable results.
1.2 Research Significance
To some extent, group text reading is an embodiment and development ofextensive reading teaching. It ensures students’ sufficient reading quantity and couldimprove their reading ability and pragmatic ability by analyzing and summarizingmultiple texts under the same theme or of the same type. The shift from “single textreading” to “multiple text” might broaden students’ horizons and reshape their readinghabits. Moreover, this reading teaching method not only cultivates students’ interest inEnglish learning and develops their core competence of English subject, but also leadsteaching reflection, facilitates the improvement of teaching skills and acceleratesteacher professional development. Therefore, English group text reading is ameaningful and far-reaching reading teaching method, which is worth promoting.
As mentioned above, currently, the implementation of group text readingteaching has been relatively mature in Chinese courses, while the teachingexperiments and symposium on the English group text reading are only centered insome areas.
