摘要:Although IT has become an important research issue since the 1970s in the west,in China, it is still taking an initial course of probing into it compared with thewestern counterparts. Hysteretic as it is, there are many Chinese linguists take upresearches in this field from various aspects.
Conclusion
The paper begins with the introduction of the concept of fossilization and ahistorical review of the literature. Then the writer carries out an empirical studyamong Chinese English learners in order to detect whether lexical fossilization existsamong college students or not. After the analysis, the research questions proposedbefore can be answered.By comparing the frequencies of the two groups of students, the findings aremainly embodied in the following three aspects: (1) Lexical “fossilization” does existin both of the two groups regardless of sex, grade and major, etc. (2) In general,sophomores use more low frequency words than seniors, which indicates that theirvocabulary size is slightly smaller. However, they are superior to the latter inmemorizing the word meaning, which shows that semantic “fossilization” is morelikely to happen in the fourth grade. (3) According to the questionnaire and the tests,this paper concludes six factors that may lead to the lexical “fossilization”:inappropriate learning strategies, lack of learning motivation, insufficient lexical input,inadequate lexical output, improper teaching strategies and lack of prompt feedback.
