5 Implications for Primary English Teaching in China
5.1 Transform of Teacher’s Role in the Classroom
In applying the new English Curriculum Standard in China, teachers ought to becooperators, supporters and guiders with students. The leading role of teachers ought to befully embodied in the student-oriented classroom. Teachers need to respect every student,trust his abilities and behaviors in acquiring and commanding knowledge. In the long run,teachers should trust students’ ability in adjusting behaviors and conductingself-assessment, and cultivate circumstances or chances to make students consider andexpress their thoughts freely. In terms of the learning content, teachers should cultivatesituations in relation to learning objectives and use the textbook flexibly, critically, andcreatively. In the task design, valuable questions are of developmental significance toencourage students to think and solve practical problems. It is suggested to adopt authenticmaterials closely related to students’ daily life and their future need, creating opportunitiesfor students to doubt and consider for solving life problems outside classroom. Meanwhile,teachers ought to offer time as well as space for learners’ imagination and aid them toanalyze and comprehend language phenomena, instead of giving them answers directly.Teachers could employ various teaching aids such as pictures, videos, to create vividvisual and active situations helping them gain more sensitive knowledge about English.The following specifies teacher’s roles in respect to the New Curriculum Standard.

Conclusion
This study, based on four parallel classes in a primary school in China, found thatstudents’ English learning motivation in the classroom was closely related to the teachingstyle of their English teachers. In the homogeneous English learning classrooms, whenfactors such as teachers’ language proficiency, students’ learning environment are similar,teachers’ teaching models (styles) played a significant role in affecting their learningmotivations. In detail, the following points were found:
1. There were significant differences among the four classes based on threedimensional of English learning motivation. Every item of motivation in Class 1 washigher than that in other three classes while in Class 4 the motivation levels were lowerthan those in other three classes. Differences existed between Class 2 and Class 3, but it isinsignificant.
