Chapter Two   Literature Review   

This  chapter  will  explore  the  definition  and  function  of  formative  assessment,  the theoretical  basis  as  well  as  tools  and  instruments  of  formative  assessment.  Then  an overview  of  the  development  of  formative  assessment  in  language  teaching  is  made both  abroad  and  at  home.  It  is  intended  to  familiarize  the  reader  with  the  basic assumptions about problem solving that go into the design of this research program and the interpretation of the results. 

2.1Review of Formative Assessment 
This  part  mainly  introduces  the  basic  definition,  the  characteristics,  the  basic theoretical  basis  of  formative  assessment  and  the  evaluation  modes  undertaken  by formative assessment.
