摘要:Kingston represents those women who are at the “double marginality”(常芳,郭海霞,2001:3) of racism and patriarchy. She is a woman and she is not a white in America. It is bound for her to suffer the racial and sex prejudice. The oriental woman is always a myth to the west, and her image is created as somehow called “little eastern woman”.
ails the horrors of a young woman who becomes pregnant out of wedlock and throws herself and her newly born baby to the bottom of the well after her family’s home is vandalized by outraged and avenging villagers. Since then, the family never told her story, and she was named “no name woman”. Suicide, for Chinese women was not uncommon. The pressures of an unhappy arranged marriage, a tyrannical and sometimes cruel mother-in-law or simply the burdens of life were often the causes. The stark reality of the narrator’s aunt’s suicide is in sharp contrast with the sentimental and romantic side of Chinese womanhood. This popular notion that the Chinese maiden and her lover killed themselves because a marriage was forbidden did not represent the reality. Few, if any, young men or women disobeyed their parents’ marriage choice. However, this myth found its way into many of the folk tales and into Chinese holidays. Even the origin of the Feast of Hungry Ghost and All Souls Night of China lies into the sad little tale of two disconsolate lovers who, separated by disapproving parents, flung themselves in a river and drowned. The folktale, “Faithful Even in Death”, reflects the inability of women to get lovers who take their lives in order to attain eternal love. The superstitions, legends and customs of China are fascinating. They abound in the supernatural. It was a common practice for rural women to give birth in pigsties in order to fool the jealous gods who do not snatch piglets but newly-born babies (The Chinese explanation of crib death perhaps).
We can find that, Kingston created a figure to go against the feudal society’s feudal moral—a woman only can have one husband during her life time and to suicide for true love. She showed her strong sympathy for the sad event of the no name woman. In her view, she thought the death of no name woman is heroic, we should show our respect to her behavior and her lot was too miserable. Her death was used to powerfully accuse the moral of feudal society by Kingston. Analyze the origin of the no name woman’s tragedy, we can see Kingston’s strong point towards the moral of feudal society, which is the moral strangle the humanity. And the feminism of pursuit the freedom of woman and the liberation of woman. The feudal autocratic system and patriarchal culture are the shackles under women’s necks and the bonds under women’s hands and feet. Those made female lost their dignity and honor. The no name woman is the victim of the feudal autocratic system and patriarchal culture. Kingston warned the female Chinese American only to oppose the patriarchal culture and the traditional idea in Chinatown, have the feminist thinking of independence, self-respect and self-improvement, that we can gain freedom, human dignity and honor; and not to be the victim of patriarchal culture, become the “No.2” of the no name woman; and we can have our position in America society, produce our own life and future.

When Fa Mu Lan was 7 years old, she began lived in a mountain and learned kongfu from her fairy teachers. After 15 years, she went back, and joined in an army and heroically fighting the enemy with her husband. Her army was very invincible, never lost a battle; finally, they cut the king’s head. After her triumphant back to hometown, she led the villagers fight for the justice, and then they won. Kingston’s work successfully created the image with austerities of
