oles, relationships and expected behaviors of a racial, ethnic, religious or social group. As a culture is so inclusive, it permeates virtually every aspect of human life and influences predominantly people’s behavior, including linguistic behavior.
Since culture (Nida, 1993, p.105) is defined succinctly as “the totality of beliefs and practices of a society,本论文英语论文网www.51lunwen.org整理提供” nothing is of greater strategic importance than the language through which its beliefs and by which most interaction of its members take place.
Culture is the basic operating system that makes us human. Humans around the world are physically pretty much the same. There are variations in body size, shape and color, but the basic equipment is universal. We can think of our physical selves as the hardware, but we cannot be said to be human until we are programmed and each of us is programmed by our home culture. There is an American cultural anthropologist elaborated in Patterns of Culture (Benedict, 1934, pp.52-119) that Humans are unique among all the animals on the earth. The infant is weak and incapable of survival for an exceptionally long period of time. At birth the infant is only a potential human. It must learn how to be human and it learns the thoughts that existing in customs, arts, religions, philosophies, ethics, morals, politics and laws in a culturally specific way. Doubtlessly, all of those necessities must be finally applied into its language. The culture provides the software. As without any good software, we are only vaguely aware of it as we use it. It fades into the background and we just know that we can be, that the computer works, or perhaps sometimes does not work because it is incompatible with someone else’s software.

B. Relationship between Language and Culture
Language is the heart of culture; they coexist and can not be separated (Bassnet, 1980, pp. 13-14). Language and culture are interdependent and mutually functioned well with each other; different nations have different cultures. It is necessary to learn culture which connects tightly with it本论文英语论文网www.51lunwen.org整理提供s language. Facts show that being lack of cultural background knowledge often leads to cultural blocks and barriers in second language learning.
No language can exist unless it is steeped in the context of culture, and no culture can exist in which does not have the structure of natural language at its centre (Lotman. & Uspensky B, 1978, pp. 21-23). It has long been recognized that language is essential and important part of a kind of national culture, and that the impact of culture upon a given language is something intrinsic and indispensable.
The relation between language and culture (Nida, 1993, pp. 105-106) would not constitute such serious difficulties for cross-cultural understanding if it were not for the numerous misconceptions about language and its function within a society. Perhaps the most serious misconception is the idea that each language more or less controls the way people think, sometimes people always say that we think the way we think because we talk the way we talk. It is true that the particular structures of language may reflects a certain degree th本论文英语论文网www.51lunwen.org整理提供e way people think of may be said from “the paths for thinking.”.
Admittedly, a belief is that a good understanding of structural things in some cases has much to do with a conscious understanding of the cultural b论文英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写英语论文代写代写论文代写英语论文代写留学生论文代写英文论文留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
