These books were of great help for theauthor to avoid mistaken interpretations. While reorganizing the target texts, the author hadlooked into Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, Macmillan English Dictionary forAdvanced Learners, Collins Cobuild Advanced Learner's English Dictionary, CambridgeAdvanced Learner’s Dictionary, Merriam-Webster's Advanced Learner's English Dictionaryand so forth. The author turned to references books like Intertextuality and Translation, ThePrinciples of Literary Translation, Contrastive Studies of English and Chinese as well. Inaddition, some corpora were taken advantage of as assistant tools for the author tocomprehend the source texts, such as Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA),Corpus of Historical American English (COHA), British National Corpus, the Bank ofEnglish and Wikipedia Corpus. At the post-translational stage of proofreading, the authorchose dictionaries like The Grand Dictionary of Chinese Language, Chinese IdiomDictionary, and Contemporary Chinese Dictionary and corpora like Center for ChineseLinguistics PKU (CCL) and BLCY Corpus Center (BCC) to ensure the accuracy of thewords used in target texts.

2.2 Translation theories and strategies adopted

Intertextuality was initially a concept of literary criticism, which was coined by J.Kristeva, who defined it as “every text is constructed as a mosaic of citations; every text isan absorption and transformation of other texts” (Kristeva, 1980: 66). But with itsdevelopment for decades, this theory has gradually integrated with other disciplines such astranslation, aesthetics and other literal arts and humanities. In a broad sense, translation is across-language activity associated with different texts, which is in close accordance with theessential characteristics of intertextuality. This theory fundamentally replaces the obsoleteviewpoint that texts are independent and self-sufficient, and embarks on new chapters in textresearch. It is then of cardinal significance to study translation from the perspective ofintertextuality theory.

Realignment, enhancement, imitation, supplementation and popularization are fivetranslation strategies adopted. Realignment is preferred in disorganized cases. Enhancementand imitation are persuasive instruments for reproducing the sentiments and locution of thesource texts. Supplementation is primarily applied to omission and emotionalelements.Popularization offers a solution proper to the language handling of children’sliterature. These five intertextuality-involved translation strategies in literary translation willbe summarized by the author based on her long-term study. The translation of three booksexemplifes the ideal practicality of those strategies.
