ss. Thus the team started to perform better. The role of the team leader is very important in this phase.
Thus finally in the “performing” stage, the members of the team start performing as per the set rules and work structure and hence they can reach the goals of the emergency unit in a better manner. There is better coordination among the administrative staff, doctors and the nurses. Thus the team can take decisions on their own and team leader often takes a participative role in this process.
Thus the different phases of team interaction can be described in this section.
In any organisation mainly two types of teams are formed. A formal team and an informal team.
A formal team is created for a specific purpose and to attain a specific goal (Anon 2009). In St Patrick's nursing home the formal team comprises of Doctors, surgeons, Nurses, theatre sisters, paramedic and the administrative staff as support functions.
The surgeon in the OT team takes the full responsibility of the successful operation, but the responsibility of the theatre sister to assist the surgeon in the operation is equally important. The task of the nurse is to prepare the patient for OT on time as as important. Hence the successful team can be defined to attain the formal goals of the team and as a whole the organisation.
An informal team also emerges naturally and they disappear after the task is achieved (Walker & Miller 2007).An informal team may be the need of a patient. The nurses take care of the patient by feeding, dressing, bathing and hence taking care of the daily necessities, while the manager or the doctor, monitors the role of the care giver and administer the medicines advised to the patient. Thus the informal team of the patient, doctor and the nurse is formed. This team disappear as soon as the patient recovers and is released from the nursing home and goes back home.
Thus both the types of teams which generally happens in the social care and health organisation are explained.
The evaluation and monitoring of the performance of an individual employee in social care and health sector is performance appraisal. The appraisal can be done by considering the parameters like current performance level, identifying the developmental needs of the candidates and setting the standards which are to be achieved. The parameters like feedback, exchange of opinion, measurement of the performance standards, positive reinforcement and the agreement of the goals and the targets.
The appraisal process is carried out in the St Patrick's Nursing home by setting the parameters of appraisal. By these parameters the performance should be assessed. The parameters set by for the nurses should be the turn around time(TAT) for attending a patient to give the daily care. The behaviour with the patients are also a parameter which leads to patient(customer satisfaction). In a similar manner, the parameters for the doctor is set as the time taken to attend the patient and give him necessary treatment. Another parameter can also be set as the frequency of the same patient to revisit the hospital with the recurrence of the same problem. This could assess the efficiency of the doctor and his qualitative analysis of the treatment procedures. These parameters are also in relation to the objectives of the organisation I.e to create a customer satisfaction for th
