Ryanair threshold resources include fleet of 254 aircrafts (Ryanair, 2010), equipments, international customer base and customer service. The main threshold resource is the competent leadership; this can be built on by employing young and talented people and raise them properly.
Ryanair threshold competencies are its customer services and agreements with airport, online booking, economies of scale from suppliers and the safety of the passengers. The company can further develop the relationship with airport in other to make cost effective agreement.
The main unique resources are its employee and its brand image. It can maintain its brand image and improve it by ensuring the services are good and the employees’ skills are developed.
Ryanair airlines are known for their low fares. The company has followed consistent low fare, no frills and policy strategy. Ryanair would need to keep up with the global change and improve its strategy to meet customer needs. Its core competence show potential access to a wide variety of markets such as the business and the holiday travellers.
The strategic capabilities of Ryanair especially the core competence lead to comparative advantage. Some of the comparative advantages are one class travel, online booking, unallocated seats, corporate partnership and bargaining power.
Ryanair has attempted to control the system. It has secured good relationships with the contractors/ suppliers which has been a cost advantage. This relationship has been very useful as it has ensured delivery of products and safeguarding from Boeing. The value chain highlights the primary and support activity of Ryanair.
