heart and find out herself wrong. When she comes home, she confesses her wrong ideas and her confusion about money to her mother. Mrs. March confronts her and tells her daughter to have a right viewpoint between money and love. Though money is a needful and precious thing, but a girl should search for her true love other than a rich man with a splendid house, and living a happy, beloved, contented life more important than money (When Zhaolian, 2008: 52 ). Since then, under Mrs. March’s influence, Meg becomes a girl with the right sense of values.
Every time the girls face difficulties, Mrs. March tells her daughter how to overcome them. She solves her daughters’ problems and teaches them how to behave. She is a great and successful mother and a great feminist in Little Women, though she doesn’t achieve great career, she leads her daughters to be self-confidence little women, and this is her greatest contribution. Living in a poor family, she doesn’t abandon any of her daughter’s education, and doesn’t treat her girls as other parents who always complain about life and just pursue for money (Jiao Dingning, 2009:64). She never complains, on the contrary, she gives her daughters a good circumstance to grow up, and teaches them to be kind and helpful. She guides her daughter how to be a mature woman.
A merry family plays an important role in a chlid’s life. Mr. and Mrs.Marches, the kind independent parents set good examples to their girls, lead them to be mature and self-reliant “little women”.
4.2 Sisters Mutual Influences
Jo is interesting in writing, but she never has courage to contribute as contribution is a prudent thing. When she goes out to send the stories to the newspaperman, she behaves mysteriously. She puts on her hat and jacket as noiselessly as possible, goes out through window and takes a roundabout way as she doesn’t want anybody see her. Though looking very merry, she doesn’t tell it to any of her sisters, keeps it as her little secret. Until her stories are published, Jo shows them to her sisters. To Jo’s surprise, her sisters don’t think contribution is breaking the pattern. On the contrary, they are so happy and exciting about it, laughing and hugging each other. They cluster about Jo, say they are proud of Jo and encourage her to keep writing. Sisters’ reaction is out of Jo’s expectation, they give her the courage to earn money by writing, keep her self-reliance and push Jo to move away on feminism (Xu Qi, 2004:121).
Amy is the youngest girl in the family; she has the same problem with Meg. She thinks money is the most important thing in the world and dreams to be an upper-class lady. When she goes toEuropewith Aunt Carol, she meets her old friend rich Fred, she decides to marry him for wealthy. Later when she meets Laurie, she is so happy for she has a familiar older brother’s company. Staying with Laurie for a long time, she feels he has some problems as he becomes the lazy Laurie who doesn’t want to do anything meaningful. Amy is confused and finally she finds out the reason. Laurie confesses her love to Jo, but her feminist sister refuses Laurie’s request. Amy is shocked by Jo’s action, because refusing a rich man’s engagement can’t happen in Amy’s life. Jo’s behaviour touches Amy, she starts to think about her life, and finds out money is not as important as true love (He Xiaoying, 2011: 151). By judging
