摘要:In order to help English learners to develop further toward their target language and makea tentative study on the fossilization-related grammatical errors, this research mainly focuseson probing into the characteristics of these grammatical errors existed in Chinese。
Chapter Four Data Analysis and Discussion
4.1 Fossilized grammatical errors in 3 compositions
4.1.1 Types of errors
The author makes a research which is concerned with the four questions above. The firstresearch is about the kinds of typical errors which the subjects made frequently in theircompositions. In order to answer this question, the assistant and the author counted these errorsone by one and then categorized them into eight types in the previous 3 compositions.According to the procedures of error analysis, it indicates that the subjects make a significantnumber of errors, which can be classified into the following types: verb (92 cases), noun (78cases), syntactic structure (65 cases), past participle (42 cases), tense (26 cases), pronoun (14cases), preposition (10 cases) and article (9 cases). The detailed information is showed in theChart 4-1 below. In addition, there also exists other types of errors but they are not veryprominent in these compositions, therefore, they are ignored at last.

Conclusion
In order to have a tentative research on interlanguage fossilization on non-English majors’compositions and accordingly give answers to those four research questions mentioned above,both qualitative and quantitative methods are employed in this thesis. The answers are listed asfollows.Firstly, the typical grammatical errors which learners made are verb, noun, syntacticstructure, past participle, tense, pronoun, preposition and article.Secondly, the grammatical instructions help a lot for learners to eliminate these errors. Theresults indicate that these instructions mainly provide them with grammatical explanations. It isbeneficial for learners to de-stabilize the errors and get in the way of the fossilization processesto some extent.Thirdly, it is possibly that the learners’ grammatical errors are not fossilized. In fact, theseerrors are in a state of stabilization. Non-persistent errors can be eradicated while the persistenterrors are likely to stabilize, fluctuate or even to be eradicated at last. However, some kinds ofnew errors appear when the subjects are asked to write a new composition. It implies that thelearners’ interlanguage is in state of dynamic.
