摘要:阅读理解是一种语言交际活动。阅读理解的过程,是一个必须通过语言表面信息推断深层含义的认知心理过程。

hough there have already many researchesabout the English reading teaching and really many teaching methods have got theireffects, the application of cognitive context theory in RT on English reading teachingis still rare, especially with the empirical research under this new teaching method.As there are still some problems in students’ English reading comprehension andsome drawbacks of traditional reading teaching, the aim of this thesis is to search fora new effective teaching method in English reading in order to improve the students’reading proficiency.
The research shows that the experimental group and the control group, whichshow no distinct difference in English reading in the pre-test, appear to be significantdifference in the post-test. As the experimental group is taught to use cognitivecontext theory in their English reading while the control group is still with traditionalmethod, so the result indicates that the application of cognitive context theory iseffective in improving the proficiency of college students’ English reading.The findings of the study demonstrate that applying cognitive context inreading teaching fosters the accuracy rate and reading proficiency. Furthermore, thestudy reveals that the students' ability of grasping main ideas and making inferencesfrom given passages was significantly enhanced. All of these findings throw somelight on foreign language teaching.
In a word, the cognitive context theory under RT provides us with a newperspective to explore the nature of English reading and the ways to improve collegeEnglish reading teaching. Despite that the present research is originally performedand analyzed with the advanced statistical devices, the validity and accuracy of theresults of the research are still probably affected by some limitations, such as thenumber and the range of the subjects is not big enough, the experimental time is stilla little shorter and also some subjective factors. Thus larger and wider samples, longer experimental time, more relevant instruments suggested for the futureresearch.It is sincerely hoped that this study can provide some indications and usefulsuggestions that will help improve the current college English reading teaching andcall for more attentions to apply the cognitive context theory under RT to guide theinstruction of other college English courses such as listening, speaking, and writing.
