ferent from daily conversation, there are not omission and incomplete sentences. These figures show the two sides of public speech. The sentence type of public speech must easily accept by audience for the purpose of speaking. And the sentence type also should be formal as it is well prepared before.
All kinds of sentences used in this material. Public speech is to delivery information, persuade the audience or arouse the emotion. So it often uses declarative sentence that describe things, actions and believes. And sometimes it also uses interrogative sentence, or answer the questions by itself. For example:
“You ask: ‘What is our aim? ’
I can answer in one word : Victory——”
Or ask the question without answer, for example:
“ Can any one doubt the wisdom of this action?
That it answers by itself is to appeal people’s attention, be sure the description or make people to think. The question in public speech don’t need to answer, but audience often react with applaud or joy. Imperative sentence is often used to appeal people’s thought or action, which sometimes follows the word “ let ”. For instance, “ Come, th en, let us go forward together with our united strength.
The structure of phrases is complex. The long phrases in public speech are more complex than daily conversation. It can delivery more correct information. “an administration of this scale and complexity”.
“the preliminary stage of one of the greatest battles in history”.
“any of my friends and colleagues, or former colleagues, who are affected by the political reconstruction”.
“any lack of ceremony with which it has been necessary to act ”.

“a candor and a decision which the present situation of our nation impels ”.
The verb phrases in persuasive speech don’t use omission, which is one of the special features. In fact the form of the omission means some omission in pronunciation. Finegan and Besnier made

In addition, many verb expressions in the speech such as “should be summoned”, “will be proposes”, “will be notified”, “must be remembered”, “have to be prepared”, “may be pardoned”, “will not be suffered to fail”, add the complexity of verb phrases and formality of speech.
