摘要:Based on the research findings, this thesis believes that future BE education issuggested to attach importance to the career development of business Englishteachers, to better teaching conditions and resources, to improve material writers’theory accomplishments. And task design in BE writing materials is supposed to bebased on the syllabus of business English teaching, remove the influence oftraditional teaching concepts and examinations, put the authentic learning as aguideline and finally meet the needs of teaching practice and talent cultivation at thesame time.
1.3 Significance of This Research
In order to meet economic globalization’s calling for BE talents, BE educationhas been attached more importance than ever. Lots of BE teaching and learningmaterials have been developed for the booming market, including BE writingmaterials. Materials play the key role in teaching and learning, so for the flourishingmarket of BE writing materials for different levels of learners, it’s necessary to havea deep study on them to provide suggestions for the choosing and futuredevelopment of BE writing materials. Sun Wenjuan (2009) once had an evaluationon BE writing materials based on McDonough and Shaw’s evaluation theory. MoZaishu & Sun Wenjuan (2010) made a status analysis of BE writing materialsdevelopment in China. While there is still no specific study on task design of BEwriting materials up to now. Therefore, the current research will enlarge and broadenstudies on BE writing materials.Authentic learning is an approach of learning which “may be more importantthan ever in a rapidly changing world” (Marilyn, 2007: 9). Based on the viewpoint ofCollins (1991), with authentic learning, students know how to apply knowledge; theywill be more creative; they see the in-depth knowledge and they know how toorganize knowledge appropriately. Compared to traditional teaching and learningapproach, it seems that students benefit a lot from this new one.Because of the advantages of authentic learning, this new approach isexperiencing a wide spread in education field. So study on task design in BE writingmaterials based on authentic learning will provide us some useful suggestions forfuture development of task design in relevant materials. Through analyzing taskdesign in BE writing materials, it is hoped to find out the characteristics of taskdesign in BE writing materials, specifically to what extent task design indicatesauthentic learning, and the underpinning reasons for such features. Finally somepedagogical implications for BE education and the future development of task designin BE writing materials will be provided.
1.4 Structure of This thesis
This thesis consists of altogether five chapters:Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction to the current study. It firstly introducesthe background of the research, including more and more interest in task design, noresearches on task design in BE writing materials and wide spread of authenticlearning theory. Later it illustrates the objectives and pedagogical purposes of thisstudy. Finally it presents the overall structure of this thesis.Chapter 2 reviews related literature of this research. A brief review of studieson teaching materials is displayed at the very beginning of chapter two. As one ofthe major branches of materials study, previous researches on task design has beendiscussed later. Finally, the introduction of authentic learning and some relevantresearches have been presented.Chapter 3 discusses research design and methodology of this research.
