摘要:本文是英语教学论文,本研究以 XX 大学一年级某班级的 26 名英语专业的学生为实验对象,他们在学期初通过词汇量测试被平均分成水平相当的两组,A 组和 B 组。A 组和 B组在每次观看影视片段后都有不同的任务,且 A 组的任务投入量大于 B 组投入量。
Chapter 1 Int roduction
1.1 Resear ch Background
Vocabulary learning is a basic part for language learning especially for English learning. Learning English is like buildi ng a house, and vocabulary is the foundation for the house. A number of bricks are needed for building a house. V ocabulary learning is just like the bricks and it has the same function for English learning. Only when learners get enough vocabulary can th ey use the language fluently and express themselves properly. However, vocabulary learning is always not so easy for Chinese learners. Learners try every method they can but only remember little words. Th at’s because learners always use trad itional ways to recite words or expression s, and they just repeat to write or read the words again and again and m emorize them mechanically. This is not an efficient way for learners if they want to lear n better. Recently, more and more scholars and linguists have reali zed the significance of English vocabulary learning in a more efficient way and they believe that learning vocabulary incidentally in audio-visual context is one of them. They have done m any experiments about this m ethod to resear chif this m ethod is high-ef ficient to vocabulary learning and how can it influe nce vocabulary learning and also some implicates by experiment.

1.2 The Significance of the Study
Vocabulary is an indispensable part in English. Thus, vocabulary learning is also very important. Vocabulary learning is not only a vital part in English learning, but also a d ifficult part in both Eng lish learning and teach ing. Teachers use m any different kinds of m ethods to help learne rs remember as many vocabularies as they can, but the results make them disappointed. Therefor e, many researchers and scholars have made some empirical studies to find out m ethods that can be used in English class to improve learners’ vocabulary level. However, most of the researches are designed for teenagers who are middle school students. Few of them are aiming at university students. It shoul d be known that university students need m uch larger vocabulary size to get higher degree in study especially for English m ajors. Furthermore, most of the researchers only study the relationship between incidental vocabulary learning and reading tasks. Few researchers notice the ef fect of audio-visual context in English vocabulary learning. The present study aims to investigate the relationship between incidental vocabulary acquisition and audio-visual c ontext, and the ef fects of di fferent involvement load on incidental vocabulary acquisition for English m ajors.
