Chapter One Literature Review  

1.1 Overseas Studies 
Researches  on  translation  quality  Assessment  of  foreign  countries  began  in  about nineteen  seventies.  The  main  researchers  are  Katharina  Reiss,  Juliane  House,  Malcolm Williams and Peter Newmark, etc. The  book  Translation  Criticism:  The  Potentials  and  Limitations  of  German  theorist Katharina  Reiss  plays  an  important  role  in  translation  field.  In  this  book, Resis  introduced how  to  evaluate  the  translation  process  from  functional  perspective  and  formed  a  standard for  translation  evaluation.  She  introduced  the  text  function  into  translation  criticism  and proposed that we should establish a comprehensive system of text analysis model. She also thought  that  the  most  important variable  in  the translation was  the  type  of  original text and translation  was  to keep  the text  type unchanged.  She proposed  to  divide  the  texts  into four types. But unfortunately she did not explain how to determine the type of text and did not put forward the definition of translation. She proposed for the corresponding translation evaluation  standard  according  to different  text  types, but the  cultural and  social  factors in the process of translation had not been taken into consideration (Zhang Limei 176). She did not put forward a complete set of translation quality Assessment model. Juliane  House  finished  A  Model  of  Translation  Quality  Assessment  in  1977  and Translation  Quality  Assessment ： A  Model  Revised  in  1997.  The  Translation  Quality Assessment  Model  is  the  first  complete  translation  assessment  system  and  it  gives instruction  to  the  translation  assessment  work.  It  is  based  on  the  theory  of  systemic functional  linguistics,  discourse  analysis  and  register  analysis  in  functional  linguistics.

1.2 Domestic Studies 
As an important part of translation practice, translation quality assessment is so much less than translation activity, especially in China. Although translation assessment has been paid  great  attention  to  until  now,  compared  with  the  development  of  translation  activity,  it still  needs  to  be  further  developed  in  order  to  keep  the  balanced development  of translation and  translation  quality  assessment  because  people  pay  more  attention  to translation rather than translation assessment.
