1. Introduction

Code-switching is a kind of special language phenomenon. With the popularity ofsatellite TV, mobile phones, the Internet and other communication technology, the processof globalization accelerates, the world becomes increasingly smaller, and people fromdifferent cultures get more and more communication with each other. In this context, moreand more people have access to two or more codes, and code-switching has become awidespread phenomenon in communication. Since the 1970s, this phenomenon has drawnextensive concern of experts and scholars, who are committed to the research ofcode-switching, and have made great progress.

1.1 Research Background
Code-switching studies in the west began in the 1950s, stemming from the attention ofthe bilingual phenomenon and bilingual teaching. Since the 1970s, code-switching studieshave entered the era of diversification, attracting the attention of many influential linguists,such as, Fishman, Gumperz, Sankoff, Platt, Poplack and so on. They study code-switchingrespectively from social linguistics, syntax, pragmatics and other fields. It is important tonote the scholar Poplack, who first put forward the theory of language contact, defined theterm code-switching and classified the types of it. All of this has a far-reaching influence.Based on her previous studies, code-switching research can be divided into fourperspectives: the perspective of social linguistics, the perspective of syntax, theperspective of psycho-linguistics, and the perspective of conversational analysis.Domestic studies of code-switching sporadically appeared in the 1980s, from the midof the 1990s to the end, the study of code-switching began to develop, and it reached itspeak in the early of the 21st century. Before the mid of the 1990s, the domestic researchabout code-switching is mainly about the introduction and comments of westerncode-switching theories, and empirical studies are rare. In the latter half of the 19thcentury, the new situation is that scholars could select material widely and have practicalresults. They began to observe and describe the specific language and object, using thesocial linguistics theories to explain such linguistic phenomena. In the 21st century,knowledge updates faster, and people can easily acquire the latest information on theInternet. Code-switching study in this period presents new characteristics: fastertheoretical introduction, broader research vision, and the innovation of interdisciplinaryresearch methods.

1.2 Purpose and Significance of the Study
Code-switching is a common phenomenon in modern language use, concerningpeople’s choice in two or more languages or language variants. Although this phenomenonhas caused extensive concern of experts and scholars, the research on the phenomenon ofcode-switching in the lyrics is rarely seen. With the development of the society, thepopular song lyrics, as one of language forms, have increasingly become a special carrierof the code-switching. The focuses of this thesis are as follows: first, the author analyzesthe frequency of code-switching in the Chinese pop song lyrics and its grammaticalstructure characteristics; second, the author discusses the pragmatic functions ofcode-switching in the lyrics from the perspective of pragmatics; third, the author analyzesthe frequency of code-switching in different periods, the language structure characteristicsand the fa
