Chapter one Introduction
Translation is a complex activity with a long
history. It can be traced back to the beginning of human social activities and make great contributions to the achievement of communication between different cultures and the development of society. As the conductor, the translator should have gotten an important position, however they are always hidden in translation for many complicated reasons. Even so, we cannot erase the various “trace” which left by translators in the process of translation. Especially for literary translation, the translator’s subjectivity plays a more active role. “Translation is always a creative treason”, Escarpit said. It really gets the point of literary translation. “Translation is creative because it gives the work a new look. Through the new version it can communicate with more readers; it also prolongs the life of the work and gives it birth a second time.”(Escarpit,1987:137)Translator's subjectivity in literary translation has a special research value, because the exchange, collision and deformation of different cultures are particularly obvious and are accumulated greatly in this activity. With “Cultural Turn” in west, a great deal of scholars have started to focus on the translator's subjectivity and generate a lot of research fruits including the appearance of feminist approach, structuralism approach, hermeneutics approach, post-colonialism approach and others. This paper attempts to explain and discuss the influence and reflection of the translator's subjectivity at all levels in the process of translation from the perspective of modern hermeneutics by analyzing the English version of To Live. The paper will help to understand the nature of translation, and shed light on the translator’s reasonable status. Moreover it is anticipated that translators can play a positive role in translation and translate more outstanding works which prompts the Chinese contemporary literature “going out” to achieve the purpose of cultural exchange.

1.1 Research Background
Many language problems appearing in translation in reality are cultural issues in some cases. Literary translation is more than a simple language conversion whose selection, mode of translation, translation strategies, style, so as rhythm will be subject to poetics and personal ideology. That addition, deletion, adaptation, etc. just meet the requirements of “creative treason” of the target culture
