Abstract: Data was gathered for 66 countries and a linear multi-variate regression was run. Consumption was identified as one of the main contributors to waste generated. This test was then repeated for groups of countries, split by means of their Human Development Index rating. The results showed that the effects of the components of GDP on waste generation differ for each group of countries. Economic policy should therefore be set once a country understands which group it belongs to and implications thereof. Further research, with a larger data set, is required in order to corroborate the results.
