With the rapid development of computer technology and network information technology, the electronic commerce (e-commerce) has become a new concept and gradually been adopted in the international trade in developing countries. After years of effort, the application of e-commerce in the field of international trade has made progress and has been affecting the global business environment profoundly. Although, the application of e-commerce in international trade still faces a number of challenges, problems would be alleviated or solved by implementing appropriate measures. Consequently, in the future, the e-commerce will gradually be the most significant mode in international trade in developing countries. This essay will begin by defining the e-commerce. Next, the essay will explain that why developing countries have been chosen to research. It will then go on to consider strengths of the application of e-commerce in international trade in developing countries. Then, the description of existing problems and solutions will be given. Finally, the prospect will be discussed.


Turban et al (2008:04) defines that “E-commerce is the process of buying, selling, transferring, or exchanging products, services, and/or information via computer networks, including the Internet.” Basically, the e-commerce is sorted by the relationship among participants. The B2B, B2C and C2C e-commerce are the most common form. B2B means all participants are companies; B2C is business to individual consumers; C2C refers to consumers to consumers (Turban et al 2008). As international trade activities usually happen among companies or manufactures from different countries, B2B is the main mode in the international trade. 

For instance, www.alibaba.com is an outstanding B2B platform where all international enterprises that register accounts could do business at it. Importers could search products or exporters by selecting appropriate categories or inputting key words, and then choose suppliers by comparing website design, pictures, prices and production capacities. Exporters could find buyers by the built-in advanced search, and then send promotional letters, product information, etc to importers. Next, importers and exporters could negotiate prices or product requirements by email.
